Zack Kass On AI Optimism, Identity Displacement, and Productivity

In an interview with Morningstar’s Ivanna Hampton, futurist and top-booked AI keynote speaker Zack Kass got real talking about what the future of artificial intelligence holds, good and bad.

Kass is a self-proclaimed AI optimist who views it as a tool that will accelerate upward trends in the quality of life people enjoy, but he does believe we’re in for some rough patches. One of the most troubling potential side effects will be identity displacement, which he suspects could be caused by frequent changes in people’s jobs and careers, which for many are deeply intertwined with their senses of self. However, there’s a bright side to this, with Kass arguing that people will be happier in the long-term if they have the freedom to attach their self-worth and happiness to things outside their job.

Hampton and Kass also discuss the pitfalls of over-reliance on AI to solve problems, how AI can be utilized to simplify daily life,  and how ultimately, tech will be used to facilitate major scientific breakthroughs to achieve net good for humanity.
