When the Beauty Industry Collides with Neurotech, AI and Sciences: Innovation Speaker Tan Le and L’Oréal Create a Headset for Precise Fragrance Selection
Picking out perfume can be a little overwhelming with so many brands and categories of scents to choose from. There’s fruity, woody, musky, floral, citrus— after testing so many fragrances, everything starts smelling the same.
What if there was a gadget that could give you personalized fragrance advice based on your brains’ electrical energy? A special tool that could sense your neural responses to fragrances?
Well, that’s exactly what Innovation Keynote Speaker Tan Le has created with her company EMOTIV and in partnership with L’Oréal’s technology incubator, the Yves Saint Laurent brand. According to a recent WWD article, the two companies have invented a multisensor EEG-based headset that will precisely sense and monitor behavior, preferences, stress and attention for personalized fragrance advice.
“We’re simplifying the decision-making process by connecting emotion and scent through technology, in a way no one has done before. Rooted in science and powerful insights, this technological breakthrough will help consumers decode what fragrances are best suited to their needs.” says Tan Le.
Plus, this in-store fragrance consultation device will help consumers break through the haze of perfume marketing and figure out what best suits them individually. “Together with L’Oréal, we hope this partnership provides unique insights into how consumers feel about fragrances and about how scents make them feel through an unbiased lens,” says Tan Le.
