Yalda Hakim is an award-winning anchor and foreign correspondent. She joined BBC World News in 2012 as a presenter and correspondent.
Hakim presents the BBC’s flagship news program ‘Impact with Yalda Hakim’. Her interview with Hamid Karzai, President of Afghanistan lead to headlines across the globe as she accused NATO of causing ‘great suffering’. Her interview with the Indonesian Premier discussing chemical castration to tackle pedophilia also made international news.
Hakim has reported extensively on the rise and fall of the so called Islamic State in Iraq. Most recently she travelled to the world’s youngest nation South Sudan which is embroiled in a brutal civil war. She reported that more than 4 million people are now on the brink of famine in the devastated country.
In 2013 Halim and her team won a UN Association of Australia Media Award in the category of Best Television Documentary for her two investigations in Yemen.
Before joining BBC World News, Hakim was the presenter of SBS Dateline in Australia. Hakim was born in Afghanistan and moved to Australia in the late 1980s after her father fled Kabul with his family when the Soviet Union invaded. She began her career as a cadet journalist at SBS’s World News Australia.
