Tim is the creative vision behind Allbirds, with an eye for all things design. Sustainability is at the heart of Allbirds, which only uses materials with a low carbon footprint, with their wool requiring 60 percent less energy to produce compared to synthetics traditionally used in footwear, and castor bean oil is used to create sustainable polyurethane insoles. The company also developed packaging that uses 40 percent less material than traditional shoeboxes. With a ZQ certification for merino wool, the company is also a certified B-Corporation. They have partnered with Soles4Souls, a not-for-profit charity that provides global relief through donated shoes and clothing.
Tim’s experience as a World Cup soccer player for New Zealand led him to think about things on a grand scale, whether that be crafting shoes or running a business. He’s constantly driven by the desire to do things better. For him, it’s not about the specific product or sport, it’s about the meaning and intention behind it. Tim earned a BS in Design from the University of Cincinnati before playing professional soccer, followed by a Master’s in Management from the London School of Economics.
