MIX co-founder and leading management thinker Gary Hamel shares his agenda for building organizations that can flourish in a world of diminished hopes, relentless change, and ferocious competition.

This talk is about reinventing management as we know it – about rethinking the fundamental assumptions we have about capitalism, organizational life, and the meaning of work. While the challenges facing organizations are limitless, leadership bandwidth isn’t. That’s why you have to be clear about what really matters now. What are the fundamental, make-or-break issues that will determine whether your organization thrives or dives in the years ahead? Ultimate Advantage: Harnessing the Power of Management Innovation

Over the past century, innovations in management (the methods and processes by which a company organizes, plans, allocates, motivates, compensates, coordinates, etc.) have been a critical source of long-term competitive advantage. Most companies have relatively undifferentiated management models, and derive little if any real competitive advantage from their management practices. Currently, what most limits the performance of large companies is not their operating model nor their business model, but their management model.

In the 21st century, companies face a daunting array of new challenges – e.g. how to change as fast as change itself; how to get innovation from everyone, every day; how to create truly inspiring work environments; how to meet an ever-expanding array of stakeholder demands – that can only be addressed with fundamental management innovation. The companies that win in the future will be those that evolve their management models faster than their competitors.
The most important job for any leader is to design a management architecture that unleashes human capabilities and energizes continuous organizational renewal. With the right training and tools, any manager can become an inspired management innovator.
Learning Outcomes:

•  Deep insights into the make-or-break challenges that will define competitive success in the 21st century.
•  Experience in surfacing and challenging legacy management beliefs and orthodoxies.
•  An understanding of the new management principles that will underlie tomorrow’s critical organizational capabilities.
•  A set of highly relevant lessons drawn from bleeding-edge management innovators.
•  An understanding of the systemic nature of large-scale management innovation.
•  A clear set of rules for conducting high-value, low-risk management experiments.
•  A personal commitment to helping your company build a “management advantage.”
