Mike Walsh – The Algorithmic Leader of the Future

Mike Walsh is a top innovation and futurist speaker, bestselling author, and IoT expert. He is the CEO of Tomorrow, a global consultancy on designing business for the 21st century, the bestselling author of Futuretainment, and publisher of the “Disruptive Future” blog read by thousands of professionals. He was recognized as one of Australia’s “Top 30 Entrepreneurs Under 30.”

Rather than focusing on the distant future, Mike focuses on the next five years. His views have appeared in many publications, including BusinessWeek, and Forbes.

I’m looking for the questions that are plaguing other people because I think in the questions you find the path to the things that really matter.

Episode Highlights

1

Do you articulate in the algorithmic leader how one might actually set about to reboot the way they manage their company?

What I’m really trying to say is that the idea that if you automate part of a job, the whole job will at some point go away is one of the founding fallacies of the way we think about AI today.

2

If you were going to curate a conference and we called it Unresolved Issues, what would be the top themes that you’d want to go find the smartest people in the world to address?

I think I would be terrified to host a conference called Unresolved Issues. People would see it as a kind of Betty Ford Clinic, especially if I held it in California. If I was to hold a dream conference, I would really try to bring people together to focus on the question of what is our true potential as human beings in the 21st-century? What are we truly capable of?

3

How you stay current, how you stay relevant, how you stay on top of this ever-moving change in all these worlds?

We’re going to need to be comfortable existing in the cracks, to move seamlessly between traditional thinking modes. Because if something can be specified, and it can be defined, it can be done by a machine. So the things that can’t we’re going to need to become little Leonardo’s in order to thrive.
