About Keynote Speaker Tyler Shultz

Tyler Shultz was the first person to alert regulators that something was wrong at Theranos. He sent a complaint about the company potentially manipulating its quality-control checks to the New York state public health lab with a pseudonym. Shultz also spoke confidentially to Wall Street Journal reporter John Carreyrou who wrote a series of stories detailing issues with Theranos’ blood-testing technology.

He was also on the Lead Stanford team in the Qualcomm Tricorder Xprize Competition, winning the Bold Epic Innovator Award and has worked with Professor Wang for 2+ years, where they filed a joint patent “Small Molecule Magnetic Immunoassays.” In 2016, Forbes named Tyler as one of the 30 most influential people under the age of 30 in healthcare.

Shultz is now working on a new project: the equivalent of a breathalyzer for pot, which will allow law enforcement officers to detect high levels of marijuana’s active ingredient, THC, in small samples of saliva.
